HILGOS PROJECT
1995 - 1999
Installations that utilize paintings, sketches and writing by Hilgos and
sound and video elements by Jenny Gräf Sheppard which explore
notions of memory and self in the context of authorship.
For over three years I worked with life-long painter Hilgos (then in her 90's)
to help re-establish her creative core self. What ensued was a
mutual exploration of self in the context of memory loss through the
realm of creativy and collaboration between Hilgos and myself.
Exhibitions took place in Chicago at Whitehall Nursing Home, Wilkenshire Retirement Home,
The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and at the Pfaffman Gallery in New York.
The project was screened at the University of South Florida's (former) International Center on Aging.
